Mojtaba Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader, stated on Saturday that Iran will retaliate for the deaths of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other Iranians killed during the conflict with the U.S. and Israel. The former Supreme Leader's funeral was attended by millions of mourners. In a written statement, Mojtaba Khamenei vowed to avenge his father's death, emphasizing the need for revenge against those responsible for the killings. He referred to the perpetrators as 'criminal, disgraceful murderers' and asserted that their identities are well-documented.
The statement included a direct threat towards the U.S., with Mojtaba Khamenei echoing sentiments that have been interpreted as targeting President Donald Trump. In response, Trump stated that the U.S. military is prepared to respond decisively if Iran acts on its threats against him. He mentioned that missiles are aimed at Iran and that military orders have been given to respond to any aggression.
Additionally, the Trump administration demanded that Iran announce the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has not yet done. An Iranian diplomat stated that only Tehran has the authority to decide on the strait's status.
