Lindsey Graham Dies from Aortic Dissection, Medical Examiner Reports

Lindsey Graham, a 71-year-old U.S. Senator, died from a rare cardiovascular condition known as an aortic dissection, according to preliminary findings from the D.C. Medical Examiner’s office. Emergency personnel responded to a report of cardiac arrest at Graham’s Capitol Hill home on Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. Police scanner audio indicates that CPR was in progress approximately 25 minutes after the initial call. The medical examiner's preliminary examination concluded that Graham's death was due to 'Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease.' An aortic dissection is characterized by a tear in the inner layer of the aorta, the body’s main artery, and is more common in men aged 60 and above. The medical examiner's office noted that the death certificate will remain pending until all toxicological and microscopic tests are completed. Graham had a family history of heart disease, with his father having died of a heart attack at age 69.
