Man Arrested After Attempting to Kidnap 7-Year-Old Girl in Portland Park

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a 7-year-old girl from her mother at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Police received reports of a naked man running in the park shortly before 7 p.m., with one caller stating he attempted to punch them. Officers were occupied with other calls at the time. Approximately 12 minutes later, another caller reported that the man had grabbed the girl and tried to pull her away from her mother. Upon arrival, police found the suspect, identified as Daniel Vasey, swimming in the Willamette River. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted kidnapping and assault. The girl was checked by paramedics for minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Witnesses reported that the girl's parents and bystanders intervened to prevent the abduction, with the mother pulling on the girl and others using physical force and pepper spray against the suspect.
