Armed man arrested at U.S. Capitol barricade; investigation ongoing

An armed man was arrested on Monday after driving to a security barricade outside the U.S. Capitol. The incident prompted a police investigation into the man's motives for approaching the heavily protected area, leading to a temporary shutdown of part of the Capitol grounds. U.S. Capitol Police reported that officers apprehended the man at the North Barricade after discovering he was in possession of a firearm, which is prohibited on Capitol Grounds. Authorities closed the area while investigators processed the scene. Capitol Police stated that their investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and his reasons for driving to the Capitol. The suspect has not yet been identified, and no charges have been announced. Police were observed at the scene removing items from a Ford Bronco parked in front of the barricade, which included water bottles and other belongings. A dog that had been inside the vehicle was safely removed and taken away in an SPCA vehicle. The North Barricade remained closed as the investigation continued.
