The funds had been held in the court's registry while Trump pursued appeals. Trump's legal team had requested to delay the payment, but the request was denied. Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, confirmed the payment, stating it was awarded by a jury three years prior. Trump has denied Carroll's allegations and claims the case is politically motivated. The case originates from Carroll's accusation that Trump sexually assaulted her in the mid-1990s. In May 2023, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million in damages, which increased to over $5.6 million due to interest. The Supreme Court's recent decision left the lower court's judgment intact, and Trump plans to continue contesting the case. Additionally, Trump and Carroll are involved in a separate lawsuit where a jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million for defamation related to statements made during his presidency in 2019. Trump is expected to seek Supreme Court review of this judgment as well.
