Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Commends Late Sen. Graham for Support of AI Porn Legislation

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised the late Sen. Lindsey Graham for his support of the DEFIANCE Act, legislation aimed at allowing victims of nonconsensual AI-generated deepfake pornography to file civil lawsuits. The bill, which Ocasio-Cortez and Graham worked on together, passed the Senate in January by unanimous consent. Graham, who recently passed away, was known for his differing political views from Ocasio-Cortez, particularly on foreign policy. However, Ocasio-Cortez acknowledged his role in securing bipartisan support for the legislation, stating that it is designed to protect individuals from nonconsensual AI-generated content. The House version of the bill has not yet advanced past the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan. If passed, the bill would allow victims to seek damages in federal court, with potential awards of up to $250,000 in cases linked to sexual assault or harassment.
