Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, made a personal donation of $1 million to the super PAC Public First, which advocates for regulations on artificial intelligence. The donation was recorded in Federal Election Commission filings from May. Anthropic has also contributed to Public First Action, the organization overseeing Public First. In February, Anthropic donated $20 million to Public First Action to support public education on AI policy and promote safe AI practices.
Public First Action, a nonpartisan organization founded by former Representatives Chris Stewart (R-UT) and Brad Carson (D-OK) in November 2025, aims to support candidates who advocate for safety regulations on AI. Stewart emphasized the importance of proactive measures in AI regulation, citing past failures with other technologies.
The three super PACs linked to Public First Action have approximately $1.8 million in cash on hand, while the pro-AI development super PAC, Leading the Future, has $31 million available from previous fundraising efforts. Amodei has a history of political donations, including a $5,000 contribution to the Biden Victory Group in 2020 while he was at OpenAI. Recent FEC filings also indicate that five other Anthropic employees contributed over $2 million to Public First, alongside donations from a Google DeepMind employee and OpenAI.
