Jill Biden Discusses Media Coverage of Joe Biden's Presidency

Former First Lady Jill Biden appeared on "The View" with co-host Whoopi Goldberg in June to discuss her memoir, "A View from the East Wing," and her views on politics and media. During the conversation, she was asked about the media's coverage of her husband's presidency. Jill Biden expressed uncertainty about the fairness of the coverage, stating, "I think probably, well, I mean, seeing how things are now, I don't know. I don't know. I'd have to think about that." She suggested that the Biden administration could have made more efforts to engage with the press to foster better relationships, expressing regret that they may not have been perceived as relatable individuals. Jill Biden also indicated a perceived "double standard" in media coverage between her husband's administration and that of former President Donald Trump, stating, "If Joe would have done any one of the things that are occurring now, I mean he would have been excoriated." She further addressed criticism of her memoir, responding to former Biden White House spokesman Andrew Bates, who suggested that her book reopened painful discussions for the Democratic Party. Jill Biden invited Bates to discuss his concerns directly with her, asserting that her book contains only one chapter on politics.
