He mentioned that there have been multiple arrests related to the vandalism, which he described as involving a 250-foot-long gash and the pouring of corrosive chemicals into the pool. The U.S. Park Police reported damage at the Reflecting Pool on June 9, noting that caulk had been applied over foam sealant that had been cut with a sharp object. Former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been indicted on a felony destruction of property charge in connection with the incident, which he denies, claiming he only touched the peeling coating out of curiosity. Trump had previously ordered a restoration project for the Reflecting Pool as part of efforts to refurbish D.C. landmarks ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary.
