California man pleads guilty to multiple Subway restaurant robberies

Freddie Alexander Lopez, a 24-year-old man from Santa Ana, California, pleaded guilty on July 18, 2026, to a federal robbery charge related to a series of armed robberies and attempted robberies at three Subway restaurants and a donut shop in Orange County. According to the FBI, Lopez committed these crimes over a six-day period, beginning on January 27, 2026, when he robbed a Subway in Santa Ana, taking $300 after threatening a cashier with a knife. He attempted another robbery on January 30 at a Subway in Fountain Valley but fled without money after the cashier refused to comply. Later that same night, he robbed a Yum Yum Donuts store. On February 1, he attempted to rob a third Subway in Anaheim, where he was armed with what appeared to be a pistol and tried to wrestle the cash register key from a female cashier. Lopez was arrested on February 6 during a traffic stop, where police found items matching those used in the robberies. He was initially released but was re-arrested on April 30. Following his guilty plea, he is scheduled for sentencing on October 2, facing a maximum of 20 years in prison.
