Rory McIlroy comments on Bryson DeChambeau's penalty at The Open

I’m not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it is performative. I think a lot of it’s for attention." He further remarked on the impact of DeChambeau's actions, saying, "To hold the tournament hostage like that... I didn’t feel like it was a great look." McIlroy also indicated that he believed the penalty was justified, stating, "I think there’s no doubt that he improved the line of his backswing." Other golfers, like Xander Schauffele, showed more sympathy towards DeChambeau, calling the situation unfortunate. DeChambeau responded to the penalty by finishing the day with a score of 1-under par, placing him at 6-under for the tournament, four strokes behind the leader, Sam Burns. McIlroy, meanwhile, is tied for 30th at 2-under par.
