Alabama man charged with the murders of military veteran and his wife

George Birmingham, 46, has been charged with the murders of Justin and Lena Elrod in Alabama. The couple was found dead at their home early Sunday morning, following reports of a burglary. Birmingham, who had posted about the Elrods on social media for nearly a decade, was arrested and is accused of using an electric saw to kill Lena Elrod and striking Justin Elrod in the head with a metallic object. A motive for the killings has not been established, but authorities described Birmingham as an acquaintance of the couple. He is also a suspect in a separate burglary that occurred prior to the murders. Birmingham faces charges including capital murder and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 20.
