Andrew and Tristan Tate, known for their controversial social media presence, were arrested on Saturday in Miami. The U.S. Marshals Service took them into custody based on a sealed warrant as British authorities seek their extradition on charges of rape and sex trafficking. The charges stem from allegations that the brothers raped and trafficked women between 2010 and 2017.
The Tate brothers, who are dual U.S. and British citizens, moved to Romania in 2016 and were previously arrested there in 2022 for allegedly luring women for sexual exploitation. They have denied these allegations, and the Romanian case has faced legal and procedural issues, preventing it from advancing. After being allowed to leave Romania, they traveled to Florida on a private jet.
They are expected to appear in federal court in Miami early next week. The U.K. authorities have accused them of abusing women in the area where they grew up, north of London. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, criticized the new charges as “filth and slander,” suggesting they are an attempt to undermine defamation lawsuits filed by the brothers in the U.S.
Andrew Tate, who gained fame as a contestant on the U.K. reality show “Big Brother” in 2016, has faced bans from several social media platforms due to violations of hate speech guidelines. He has over 10 million followers on X but has been criticized for his comments regarding sexual assault and mental health.
The U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service announced that in addition to the previously reported charges, there are now 38 new charges related to four additional victims. Both brothers face accusations of rape and human trafficking, with Andrew Tate also facing charges related to profiting from prostitution and offenses involving indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Karena Thomas, an assistant chief constable of the Bedfordshire Police, emphasized the commitment to supporting victims and investigating all reports of male violence against women.
