Civil Rights Groups File Lawsuit Against HHS Over Childcare Funding Restrictions

Civil rights groups have initiated a lawsuit against the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) due to the agency's failure to respond to a Freedom of Information Act request. This request pertains to the Trump administration's restrictions on federal childcare and family assistance, which followed allegations of fraud involving Somali childcare providers and Democratic state officials. The groups involved in the lawsuit include the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Illinois, the ACLU of Colorado, the National Women’s Law Center, and the National Center for Law and Economic Justice. They are seeking to obtain correspondence between federal officials and social media influencer Nick Shirley.
