The U.S. Department of Defense has identified two active-duty Army soldiers killed during an attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. They are 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, from Carrollton, Texas. This incident marks the first U.S. military fatalities since hostilities resumed amid ongoing tensions with Iran. A third service member's remains are currently being identified, and another soldier was killed during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance in northern Iraq, according to U.S. Central Command.
The attack on the air base is under investigation, and both Feehan and Gonzales were in Jordan supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, which targets ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. military has reported a total of 17 service members killed and over 420 wounded since the conflict began. Feehan, who served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, will receive posthumous honors including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in Ansbach, Germany.
