NORAD stated that more than 10 general aviation aircraft entered restricted airspace, with three requiring intercepts by NORAD aircraft. During two of these intercepts, NORAD aircraft dispensed flares, which were visible to the public. NORAD emphasized that the flares were used with safety in mind and posed no danger to people on the ground.
NORAD also advised pilots to check their Notice to Airmen and Federal Aviation Administration Temporary Flight Restrictions, posting a reminder on social media. The event was attended by various celebrities and political figures, including President Donald Trump, who presented the trophy to Spain. A similar security issue was reported earlier in the tournament, with the FBI intercepting over 300 unauthorized drones nationwide.
