Bill Maher Criticizes Artists for Cancelling Kennedy Center Performances Over Trump

Comedian Bill Maher expressed his disapproval of musicians and artists who have cancelled performances at the Kennedy Center due to President Donald Trump's involvement with the venue. Maher made these comments during an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl after receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center. He stated that cancelling performances gives Trump a victory and emphasized that life should go on despite his actions. Maher mentioned that many artists, including those from the musical 'Hamilton' and various orchestras and performers, have opted out of performing at the Kennedy Center because of Trump. He also reflected on his past interactions with Trump, noting that he respects the president's seriousness regarding their rivalry. The controversy surrounding the Kennedy Center escalated after Trump was inaugurated for a second term, during which he appointed himself as a trustee and attempted to rename the center. However, a federal judge ruled that the venue cannot be renamed without congressional approval, leading to the removal of Trump's name from the building.
