Authorities are investigating a warranty deed that purportedly transferred ownership of the property to Save a Life Houses LLC, signed by Matthew Jackson. Following this, a criminal investigation was opened by the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office. Investigators found no one inside the home and removed potential evidence, including surveillance cameras and paperwork.
Gilley, who is charged with capital murder in the October 2024 death of his wife, has pleaded not guilty. He allegedly fled the U.S. after cutting off his ankle monitor and was arrested in Italy using false identification. During a July 15 hearing, Gilley requested protection in Italy for himself and his children, citing concerns about the legal proceedings in Texas. His attorney has indicated that they are seeking assurances regarding the death penalty from U.S. authorities.
