Republican Congresswomen Accuse Former Colleague of Facilitating Foreign Agent Placement in Congress

Two Republican congresswomen have accused a former colleague of assisting in the placement of foreign agents in congressional offices, citing declassified files expected to be released soon. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) made the allegations in a post on X, claiming that the files will reveal foreign infiltration in congressional offices. Luna stated, "Some seriously disturbing declassified files will be coming out in the coming weeks about a Former Member Of Congress placing interns in other offices that happen to be agents of foreign governments." She also called for immediate consideration of legislation by Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) that would mandate background checks for congressional staff, describing the situation as a significant security breach. Cammack supported Luna's claims and emphasized the lack of background checks for congressional staff, advocating for her legislation, H.Res. 500, which would require such checks and disclosure of any foreign affiliations. Cammack mentioned facing obstacles in advancing the legislation and expressed her commitment to transparency regarding staff affiliations with foreign nations. The proposed resolution aims to enforce criminal background checks for House employees and public disclosure of foreign government payments or citizenship.
