Trump's Cabinet Members to Launch TikTok Accounts Following DOJ Guidance

Most members of President Trump's Cabinet are set to launch TikTok accounts on Tuesday. This decision follows a recent statement from the Justice Department indicating that it is safe for federal employees to use the app due to its acquisition by a U.S.-approved owner. This marks a notable change from Trump's first term, during which his administration expressed concerns about TikTok's ownership by China's ByteDance as a national security risk. By joining TikTok, Cabinet officials are signaling that the platform is now considered an acceptable medium for government communication. The 2022 No TikTok on Government Devices Act previously prohibited the use of TikTok on government-issued phones; however, the Justice Department now asserts that this law is no longer relevant due to the change in ownership. The Trump administration now views TikTok as an effective tool for engaging with younger voters. Trump has been active on the app since 2024, with some of his posts receiving hundreds of millions of views.
