IndyCar Teams Finalize First Charter Sale Ahead of 2027 Season

The NTT IndyCar grid will see changes in 2027 as the first sale of an IndyCar charter has been completed. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) has agreed to sell one of its three charters to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR), pending IndyCar approval. This marks the first charter sale since the system was introduced in 2024, reducing RLL's operation from three cars to two, while DRR will return to full-time competition with one car. DRR last competed full-time in IndyCar in 2012, although it has participated in the Indianapolis 500 since then. The announcement follows the recent passing of DRR founder Dennis Reinbold on June 13. DRR CEO Derek Reinbold expressed gratitude to RLL's leadership for their collaborative approach during the transaction. The specific drivers and which charter will be transferred have not yet been disclosed. RLL currently fields three cars driven by Graham Rahal, Louis Foster, and rookie Mick Schumacher. Reports indicate that Rahal and Foster are under contract for the next season, while Schumacher's status remains uncertain, despite a strong finish in Nashville. The upcoming season is anticipated to be competitive, with various drivers, including Christian Lundgaard, exploring new opportunities.
