Pentagon Investigates Reports of Airborne Objects Near Virginia Coast

The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office is investigating a Navy report detailing approximately 100 airborne objects and two likely uncrewed surface vessels near the Virginia coastline. This information was included in the Fiscal Year 2025 Consolidated Annual Report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), which covers reports from June 2, 2024, to May 30, 2025, as well as earlier incidents. During this period, the office received 319 reports, with 284 from the current reporting window and 25 from previous years. Analysts resolved 114 cases, attributing them to explanations such as balloons, birds, satellites, and drones. The majority of new sightings were in the air domain, with a single case reported in the maritime domain. The report indicates that UAP sightings often occur near military installations and critical infrastructure, and some reports suggest phenomena that may exceed current technological capabilities. The office faces challenges due to a lack of timely sensor data but is implementing initiatives to improve multi-domain awareness. Established in 2022, the office's mission includes examining objects that could threaten national security and reporting findings to Congress annually.
