Police Respond to Gunshots Reported at Supreme Court Justice's Home in Possible Swatting Incident

Police responded to a report of gunshots at the home of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett on May 27, 2026. The incident was later determined to be a swatting attempt, where false reports of violent crimes are made to provoke a police response. Washington, D.C. journalist Andrew Leyden shared audio of the police dispatch, which indicated that officers were aware of the possibility of a swatting situation. The police met with Barrett's security detail and cleared the scene without incident. Senator Mike Lee condemned the swatting attempt, stating that it is an attempt to endanger innocent lives, particularly that of a sitting Supreme Court Justice. Barrett's residence has previously been targeted by activists following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.
