An armed suspect wearing tactical gear was shot by NYPD officers after emerging from a Queens home that exploded on Saturday. The incident occurred shortly after 12 p.m. local time on Ocean Crest Boulevard in Far Rockaway, following a 911 call reporting gunfire and a man yelling threats. NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh stated that the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Keegan Thompson, was taken into custody and is in critical but stable condition at Jamaica Hospital.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a woman who reported hearing gunshots and finding a body inside the home. After establishing a perimeter and attempting to communicate with the suspect, a large explosion occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thompson emerged from the burning home carrying a shotgun and wearing a tactical vest. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but when he did not comply, an officer shot him.
Authorities later discovered two deceased family members inside the home, though their identities have not been released. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and McIntosh noted that Thompson has no documented criminal history or mental illness. The shooting incident is being reviewed by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division.
