Fauci Responds to Congressional Questions on COVID Origins

Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed frustration regarding inquiries about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and U.S. funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, stating that addressing these concerns was a waste of time. His comments were made public through diary entries shared by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), who has been vocal about these issues. Paul published a thread on X, including screenshots of Fauci's diary entries, ahead of Fauci's upcoming testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. In his entries, Fauci noted that he had encouraged the National Security Council to collaborate with qualified virologists to investigate the pandemic's origins. He mentioned that two of the virologists he recommended published a paper arguing for a natural occurrence of the virus. Fauci also criticized the time spent responding to questions about whether U.S. funding contributed to gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, emphasizing that many inquiries were based on conspiracy theories.
