Texas Senate Candidate Talarico Advocates for Data Center Regulation

This comes amid a projected expansion of data centers in Texas, with at least 248 projects planned. A recent poll indicated that approximately 56% of Texas voters oppose data center development in their communities, citing concerns over electricity consumption and environmental impact. Talarico criticized his opponents for their ties to the tech industry and their role in rising utility costs. Meanwhile, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton has not yet stated his position on the issue, although Governor Greg Abbott has suggested regulations addressing taxation and environmental concerns related to data centers. Political scientist Mark Jones noted that the presence of data centers in rural areas has caused unease among residents regarding their quality of life and resources.
