Cyberattack Targets Over 30 Minnesota Water Systems

Minnesota IT Services confirmed that a coordinated cyberattack targeted more than 30 community water systems between July 26 and July 27. Four cities, including Plymouth, South St. Paul, Maple Plain, and Braham, publicly disclosed the attacks. The Minnesota Department of Health stated there is no threat to drinking water, and no municipalities have requested residents to alter their water use. State officials have activated cybersecurity incident response capabilities and are collaborating with federal and private-sector partners to investigate the attacks and enhance security for critical infrastructure. Minnesota IT Services Assistant Commissioner John Israel emphasized the importance of a coordinated response to such incidents.
