Trump Requests Supreme Court to Overturn $83 Million Judgment in E. Jean Carroll Case

President Donald Trump's legal team has filed a request with the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn an $83.3 million defamation judgment awarded to E. Jean Carroll. The judgment originated from Trump's statements in 2019, in which he denied Carroll's allegations of sexual assault and questioned her credibility. Trump's lawyers argue that he is entitled to presidential immunity for comments made while he was in office, asserting that the appeals court did not address the issue of immunity and rejected the appeal on procedural grounds. Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s, leading to a jury finding him liable for sexual abuse and defamation in 2023, resulting in a $5 million award. A subsequent jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in January 2024 for Trump's earlier statements. The Supreme Court has previously declined to hear Trump's appeal regarding the $5 million verdict and is currently reviewing the new filing.
