Fox News Poll Indicates Urgency for AI Regulation Among Voters

<p>A recent Fox News Poll indicates that a majority of registered voters view the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) as urgent. Approximately 78% of respondents believe it is extremely (40%) or very (37%) urgent for the federal government to address AI regulations.</p><p>The poll shows that 51% of voters think the federal government should bear a significant responsibility for AI regulation, while 54% believe the tech industry should also have a substantial role. Additionally, 39% of respondents feel that state governments should have a significant responsibility.</p><p>There is a generational divide regarding the urgency of AI regulation; 69% of voters under 30 consider it urgent, compared to 84% of those aged 65 and older.</p><p>When asked about the focus of regulations, 80% of voters prioritize protecting public interests over promoting innovation (19%), with a notable generational difference—66% of voters under 30 favor public interest protection, while 88% of voters aged 65 and older agree.</p><p>Partisan differences are present, with 83% of Democrats and 82% of independents prioritizing public interest protection, compared to 77% of Republicans.</p><p>The poll also reveals a split on whether the U.S. should coordinate with other countries on AI regulation, with 51% in favor of coordination and 49% preferring independent action. Among voters under 30, opinions are nearly evenly divided, while 54% of those aged 65 and older favor coordination.</p><p>The survey was conducted from May 15 to 18, 2026, with a sample of 1,002 registered voters. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is ±3 percentage points.</p>
