US Central Command Warns Troops About Cellphone Use

In a letter dated July 28, Cooper expressed concerns that Iran could gain real-time intelligence from social media posts and cellphone footage, which could endanger the lives of U.S. service members and civilians in the Gulf region. Discussions are ongoing about possibly requiring some deployed personnel to surrender their mobile phones to enhance operational security. In Jordan, troops have reportedly been informed that their phones may be confiscated in the near future. Cooper emphasized the importance of maintaining operational security, referencing a recent incident where a service member recorded a video during an Iranian attack. The conflict with Iran has resulted in 18 U.S. troop deaths and over 600 injuries since it began on February 28, raising public concern about the military's actions in the region. The Pentagon has been cautious about information release to avoid compromising operational security.
