Deported couple found dead in Guatemala

Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz and Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz, a couple who were deported from the U.S. to Guatemala, were found bound and shot dead in a sugarcane field in southern Guatemala. They had left the U.S. from Missouri and were reported missing on July 20 after leaving their home to register a motorcycle. Their 14-month-old daughter was found crying beside her mother and was taken to a medical center for dehydration treatment. The National Civil Police of Guatemala reported that both individuals showed signs of physical trauma. Rolando Pérez Paz, the brother of Nixon, stated that the couple faced financial hardships and had previously clashed with immigration officials in the U.S. An ICE spokesperson confirmed the couple's deportation and mentioned that Pérez Paz had prior convictions, although some claims could not be verified. A vigil for the couple is scheduled for August 2 at Overland City Hall.
