Conservative podcaster Alex Jones has called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump in response to the ongoing conflict in Iran and the potential for a military draft. In a clip from his live show, Jones stated, "This is a war. They’re getting the draft ready. If this isn’t a war, nothing’s a war. I mean, this is absolutely out of control. And so I’m calling for it right now: 25th Amendment, impeachment, whatever needs to happen to get this front and center, to get control of our country."
Jones has been critical of Trump regarding the Iran war since the U.S. and Israel began military actions against Iran in late February. Trump has publicly responded to Jones's criticisms, as well as those from other conservative figures. Jones described the situation as a "disaster" and warned of the economic consequences and loss of life associated with an expanded conflict.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed concerns about U.S. troops in Iran and the possibility of a draft during a Fox News interview in March, stating, "Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table."
Jones intensified his criticism of Trump after a threatening post made by Trump on Truth Social regarding Iran, which drew bipartisan criticism. Trump later referred to Jones and other influencers as "Low IQ" and commented on Jones's legal issues stemming from a defamation case related to the Sandy Hook shooting. Jones is required to pay $1.4 billion in damages due to claims he made about the shooting being a hoax.
In April, the satirical news platform The Onion announced it had reached a deal to acquire Infowars, Jones's former platform.
