The U.S. Army conducted an overseas test of a new warfare system designed to disrupt navigation signals used by enemy precision weapons. This system, known as "Hammer of the Gods," was tested at sea off the U.S. West Coast in mid-July during the Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-C6) experiment. While land-based versions have been demonstrated previously, this marks the official debut of the maritime variant.
The portable signal disruptor is intended to impair several precision-guided weapons, including long-range artillery and cruise missiles, by jamming positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) signals, such as GPS data. The Army noted that without reliable PNT data, the accuracy of these weapons significantly decreases, leading to potential mission delays and missed targets.
Additionally, the system establishes a resilient communications network that enables friendly forces to maintain connectivity despite electronic jamming. This allows troops to continue operations in challenging environments. Army officials reported that the experiment successfully demonstrated the system's capabilities in real-world maritime conditions. The testing involved collaboration among the U.S. Army, Navy, Space Force, U.S. Space Forces Pacific, Naval Base San Diego, and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.
