George Clooney and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home in Brignoles, located in France's Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, as wildfires threaten the area. A representative for George Clooney confirmed the evacuation and shared a letter addressed to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond, expressing their concern for the community and their commitment to it. The letter stated, "At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment."
As of Wednesday, wildfires have been reported across southern Europe, with one uncontained fire burning in southwestern France, approximately four times the size of Paris. Around 3,000 people were evacuated from the Brignoles area alone. In total, more than 300,000 individuals have been forced to evacuate in France and Spain due to the ongoing wildfires.
Temperatures in France's Gironde region reached nearly 104 degrees Fahrenheit, leading to the evacuation of approximately 220,000 residents and tourists at the height of the fire. While some have returned, many remain displaced. The situation has been exacerbated by extreme heat, drought, and strong winds, contributing to the challenges faced by firefighting crews, including the reported deaths of three firefighters in Greece.
