Several Democratic members of Congress are urging the House Ethics Committee to investigate Congressman Max Miller (R-OH) following allegations of domestic violence against his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and potential child abuse. The Democratic Women’s Caucus, led by Chairwoman Leger Fernandez (D-NM) and vice chairs Hillary Scholten (D-MI) and Emilia Sykes (D-OH), issued a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation.
These calls for an investigation come after a July 18 report by Mother Jones, which cited thousands of pages of public records detailing various allegations of misconduct against Miller, including drug use, verbal abuse, and violent behavior towards women. The report also referenced a police investigation into potential child abuse related to an incident where Miller's daughter sustained a broken collarbone.
While the police investigation was ultimately deemed “unsubstantiated,” meaning there was insufficient evidence to support claims of neglect or abuse, the allegations have prompted further scrutiny. Miller has denied any violent behavior towards women. The Democratic Women’s Caucus reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety for women and children, stating, “Every woman and child deserves to live free from fear of violence.”
Other lawmakers, including Rep. Sam Liccardo (D-CA) and Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI), have also expressed their concerns and called for an immediate investigation. As of now, no Republican members of Congress have publicly supported an investigation into Miller.
