House Committee Requests Briefings on Noncitizen Voting and Foreign Election Interference

Steil referenced Trump's claim that approximately 278,000 noncitizens are registered to vote and noted issues in New Jersey where 6,600 noncitizens were mistakenly added to voter rolls. The committee expressed serious concerns about the security of American elections, particularly in light of upcoming midterm elections. While it is a federal crime for noncitizens to vote, Republicans are advocating for additional measures such as proof of citizenship in the voter registration process and a federal voter ID standard. No evidence has been found to suggest that noncitizens have influenced the outcome of federal elections.
