Bobby Hunt, Former Auburn Football Player and Chiefs Super Bowl I Starter, Dies at 85

Bobby Hunt, a former football player for the Auburn Tigers, has passed away at the age of 85. The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame confirmed his death, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends." The cause of death has not been disclosed. Hunt played quarterback and defensive back at Lanett High School in Alabama, and continued his football career at Auburn, where he played both quarterback and safety under coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan. He was drafted by the Dallas Texans in the 11th round of the 1962 American Football League draft. Hunt focused on safety in the professional league, recording eight interceptions as a rookie and earning first-team All-AFL honors. He was a starter for the Chiefs during their first Super Bowl appearance against the Green Bay Packers. Hunt concluded his professional career with the Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in 112 games and finishing with 42 interceptions. After retiring, he served as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Bills.
