Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) presented an updated draft of the farm bill on August 1, 2026, as the legislation approaches a committee markup scheduled for August 6. The draft maintains previous cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The bill includes a provision requiring states to share costs of SNAP benefits if their payment error rate exceeds 10%, with states responsible for 20% of the benefits' cost starting in fiscal 2031. This one-year delay in implementation is intended to address concerns from Democratic lawmakers regarding the administration of SNAP benefits. Boozman expressed hope that both parties will find their priorities reflected in the legislation.
Additionally, the bill allows for year-round sales of E15 fuel, a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline, which has been a priority for lawmakers from agricultural states. The committee is set to hold a markup session on the updated farm bill before the Senate's monthlong recess.
