U.S. General Raises Concerns Over Defense Resources for Israel and Homeland

General Alexus Grynkewich, the top U.S. general in Europe, has expressed concerns regarding the adequacy of resources to protect both the United States and Israel from ballistic missile threats. In a private communication to the Pentagon, he indicated that without an additional Navy destroyer, he may have to prioritize the defense of the U.S. homeland over Israel. This situation arises amid ongoing military operations and increasing tensions in the region, particularly related to Iran. Currently, there are five Navy destroyers deployed in the Middle East, with a sixth on the way, but maintenance needs have hindered their availability. The Pentagon has previously assessed that U.S. forces are significantly involved in defending Israel against threats from Iran and Houthi rebels in Yemen. The White House, Pentagon, and Israeli Embassy have not commented on the matter. Reports suggest that requests for additional resources from generals are common.
