Representative Max Miller (R-OH) announced he will make a special announcement on Sunday regarding his candidacy as scrutiny over his past increases. This follows allegations of physical violence made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, which have resurfaced after she filed a restraining order against him. Miller has denied the allegations and previously sued Moreno for defamation.
According to police reports, Moreno alleged that Miller committed multiple acts of violence during their marriage, including throwing her against a wall and holding a gun to her head. Democrats view this situation as a potential opportunity to win a seat that is typically Republican in the upcoming midterm elections. If Miller withdraws from the race, Ohio Republicans would need to find a replacement by Wednesday to run against Democratic candidate Brian Poindexter.
Miller represents Ohio’s 7th Congressional District and has previously held roles in the Trump administration. While some Republican lawmakers have remained supportive of Miller, others, including Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH), have suggested he should resign. The House Democrats Women’s Caucus has called for an ethics investigation into the allegations against him.
