Former Republican Representative Kay Granger dies at 83

Kay Granger, a former Republican Representative from Texas, passed away on Sunday at the age of 83. Granger was recognized for her significant contributions as a trailblazer for women in politics. She was the first woman elected as mayor of Fort Worth, Texas, and the first Republican woman from Texas elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Granger also served as the first female Republican chair of the House Appropriations Committee. She had been a member of the U.S. House since 1997 and retired in January 2025 due to health issues and extended absences from Congress. House Speaker Mike Johnson praised her dedication to public service and her role in breaking barriers for women.
