Congressman Files Impeachment Resolution Against Judge Over TPS Ruling

Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has introduced an impeachment resolution against Judge Allison Burroughs of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. This action follows Burroughs' recent decision to block the Trump administration from terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicated that the stay was issued amid a lawsuit by African Communities Together, which argues that the administration's actions were racially discriminatory. Ogles' resolution claims that Burroughs defied federal law and the authority of the Supreme Court, citing a ruling from June that limited lower courts' ability to block TPS decisions. Ogles stated that Burroughs' actions represent judicial activism that obstructs the will of the people. Burroughs was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2014.
