A senior official from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) sent an email last week to colleagues requesting innovative strategies to pressure Iran into complying with U.S. demands. The email, directed to military analysts, stated, "We are looking for new creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran."
This request reflects the challenges faced by President Donald Trump, who has claimed that the U.S. has won a war against Iran and that negotiations are ongoing. Retired General Joseph Votel described the request as "a bit unusual."
CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins emphasized the command's history of innovative thinking. Trump has indicated he is considering a major attack on Iran but has also called off such operations at the request of U.S. allies in the region. He stated that negotiations are being conducted at the request of Iran, supported by several countries, and described the current talks as a last chance for Iran to reach an agreement.
In July, the U.S. military conducted nearly two weeks of bombing campaigns targeting Iranian threats in the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing conflict has resulted in increased oil and gas prices globally. As of last month, 18 U.S. service members have been killed, and 685 have been wounded in action since the war began.
