Seventeen Injured in Air India Flight Turbulence Incident

On August 4, an Air India flight from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi experienced severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to 17 individuals. The flight, which had 137 passengers and eight crew members, encountered a sudden loss of altitude, causing some passengers to be thrown against the ceiling and into the aisles. An Air India spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft landed safely in Delhi. Thirteen passengers and four crew members were injured and received medical evaluation at local hospitals. As of August 5, five of the injured had been discharged, while others continued treatment. The turbulence reportedly caused a loss of approximately 300 feet in altitude. Air India stated that passenger and crew safety is their top priority and that they will cooperate with relevant authorities during the investigation. Travel industry expert Gary Leff noted that while serious turbulence incidents are unusual, they do occur and advised passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened while seated. Passengers described the experience as traumatic, with one individual recalling that her father's head hit the ceiling during the turbulence.
