Mitch McConnell Discharged from Rehabilitation Center After Hospitalization

Republican Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky announced on Thursday that he has been discharged from a rehabilitation center, nearly two months after being hospitalized. In a statement, McConnell said, "Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home." The statement did not specify when he is expected to return to Capitol Hill. McConnell mentioned that, on the advice of his doctors, he will maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period and will continue to engage with his staff and colleagues on Senate business. McConnell was hospitalized on June 14, and he and his staff provided limited information about his health for nearly a month, leading to speculation about his condition. On July 12, McConnell stated that a fall led to his hospitalization and confirmed that he did not sustain any fractures, cardiac abnormalities, stroke, tumor, or hemorrhage, but he was briefly unconscious and had a mild case of pneumonia. The Office of the Attending Physician noted that McConnell sustained "minor injuries" and that his childhood polio continues to affect his mobility. A subsequent statement on July 27 indicated that he had moved to rehabilitation care and was undergoing a "strenuous course" of physical therapy to reduce his risk of falls.
