Luxury yacht sinks off Sardinia shortly after delivery

A luxury yacht valued at $9.1 million sank in the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday, shortly after being delivered to its new owner. The Angiola II was located off the coast of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, with 14 guests on board when it suffered engine failure that led to a fire, according to reports from the New York Post. The fire damaged seals on the vessel, causing it to take on water and tip onto its side. All guests were able to escape and were rescued by nearby vessels. The yacht sank at a depth of approximately 23 feet between L’Isola dei Cappuccini and Capo Ferro in the Costa Smeralda region. The yacht, which can accommodate 10 guests and is equipped with five cabins and five crew members, has four engines and can reach speeds of 28 knots. It will remain under surveillance until a recovery company can retrieve it from the sea floor.
