Martin has faced criticism for the handling of a 2024 election autopsy, which was criticized for its lack of clarity regarding former Vice President Kamala Harris's loss to President Donald Trump. Recent incidents, including Martin reportedly throwing a phone at a staffer's desk and using DNC headquarters as collateral for a $15 million line of credit, have fueled calls for his resignation.
During the meeting, members praised Martin's leadership and pushed back against public criticisms. Some members highlighted recent Democratic successes in state elections, while acknowledging the party's divisions, particularly regarding U.S. support for Israel and immigration policies.
The DNC's Resolutions Committee discussed the ongoing efforts of the Middle East Working Group, which was established to formulate the party's official stance on Israel and Gaza. Additionally, a resolution calling for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was approved by the committee and will be presented for a vote at the full DNC meeting.
The resolution's approval has sparked criticism from the Republican National Committee, which labeled it as part of a radical agenda. However, DNC members clarified that the resolution is symbolic and not legally binding, aimed at signaling the party's stance to voters. The DNC declined to comment on the discussions when approached by the Washington Examiner.
