Mexican national charged after fentanyl seizure at U.S. border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found over 16 pounds of fentanyl, valued at approximately $240,000, concealed within an electric moped at the southern border. A 22-year-old Mexican national is facing federal charges following the incident on August 3, when he applied for entry into the United States. After being referred for a secondary inspection, officers utilized a nonintrusive imaging system that revealed anomalies in the moped. A canine unit subsequently alerted officers, leading to the discovery of seven packages containing 16.53 pounds of fentanyl powder. CBP officials stated that the driver was arrested and will be prosecuted for narcotics importation. This seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling at the border.
