Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, stated that the divide within the Democratic Party is increasing, causing concern among mainstream Democrats. He noted that candidates associated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have gained prominence recently.
York mentioned that socialist candidates such as Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier won House primaries in New York, while Abdul el Sayed won the Senate primary in Michigan. He also pointed out that Francesca Hong came close to winning the Democratic primary for governor in Wisconsin.
York indicated that the outcomes of these races represent progress for the DSA, raising concerns among traditional Democrats. He highlighted that some Democrats are even choosing to support former Republican Representative Mike Rogers over el Sayed in the Michigan Senate race.
A Fox News poll showed that el Sayed received approximately 98% support from DSA Democrats and independents, while Rogers garnered only 2%. In contrast, el Sayed had 69% support from non-DSA Democrats and independents, compared to Rogers' 27%.
York remarked on the unusual situation where a significant portion of Democrats, nearly a quarter, are considering supporting Rogers, indicating discomfort with the current direction of the Democratic Party.
