Arday had resigned from his position at Cambridge on August 5 after facing allegations of plagiarism in his academic work and claims regarding his athletic and academic accomplishments. He became the youngest black professor at Cambridge in 2023 at age 37, gaining public recognition for his academic achievements despite overcoming significant challenges.
Born in London to Ghanaian immigrants, Arday was diagnosed with autism and dyslexia, which he stated left him nonvocal until the age of 11. He earned three degrees before joining Jesus College, Cambridge. Public scrutiny of his qualifications was heightened following an analysis published by the Times of London on July 24, which identified multiple passages in his 2015 doctoral thesis that were described as identical or near-identical to an earlier paper by another researcher. Arday denied the accusations but indicated that he stepped down due to the intense public scrutiny he faced.
